Plastics Stewardship Australia is an initiative of Chemistry Australia, which represents plastics raw material producers, importers, distributors, processors and manufacturers, compounders, recyclers and research organisations.
Plastics Stewardship Australia members are proud to manufacture materials that can help us to do more with less and contribute to a more efficient use of resources. These are just some of the ways that plastics are helping to create a better planet and a safer world.
A key initiative of Chemistry Australia is the support and promotion of Operation Clean Sweep to the whole plastic supply and value chain.
Pellet loss has many negative impacts on individual companies, on the plastics industry as a whole and on the environment. Slips and falls are a major cause of plastics industry accidents. Accidents mean lost time, higher worker compensation costs and lower employee morale. Violations of storm water regulations in States such as Victoria can result in penalties of more than $700,000 if taken to court. Spilled pellets eventually end up in our oceans.
The ultimate goal of Operation Clean Sweep® is to help keep plastic pellets out of the environment. These efforts can also help improve relations with stakeholder groups and community organisations that expect the industry to minimise its environmental footprint.
The industry needs every plastic manufacturer, plastic supply chain professional and plastic processor’s help to get results.
Robert Moran, Business Manager of LyondellBasell Australia and chair of Plastic Stewardship Australia, is outlining this new initiative by Chemistry Australia and why Operation Clean Sweep® is the first step in a sustainable future for plastics.
